Rutherford is an AVA in Napa where some of the greatest producers are located such as Staglin, Opus One, Silver Oak, and Hall. Nestled right in between some of these renowned estates, right off Highway 29, is a winery named Grand Napa Vineyards. 
 
Grand Napa Vineyards is owned by Dwight Bonewell. Dwight’s background is in the restaurant industry in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he owned a few restaurants in the region such as Harry’s Food and Cocktails and 101 BLU. Dwight realized as a restaurateur how important wine was to operations, so he would travel to Napa to select wines to create private labels for his restaurants. This trend quickly became more frequent, and long story short, Dwight fell in love with Rutherford and purchased this estate back in 2018.

Winemaking is the key to any great wine, and perhaps Dwight’s best move was to hire Stephane Vivier to make his wine. Stephane most notably was the lead winemaker @ HDV (Hyde de Villaine) which is a joint venture between the Hyde family of Carneros and the Villaine family that owns Domaine Romanee Conti. Stephane is also the lead winemaker at Long Meadow Ranch in the Anderson Valley.

Wineries Tasting Notes: The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from Grand Napa Vineyards is a dense, dark red. The nose has a mix of blackberry, graphite, and spice which all come together with a touch of vanilla. Plush tannins with sweet herbs and crushed stones making for a beautiful long finish on the palate.
