Napa Cab lovers alert!!! 
 
This wine absolutely floored me. To be able to get this type of quality, with time in the bottle, well under retail, is an absolute treat!
 
The Shelter label was started by David Stevens. David bartended at one of the most famous establishments in Napa, a restaurant named Tre-Vigne. Working the bar at Tre-Vigne, David was exposed to the best wines in the world, and in turn, developed a great palate and fell in love with wine. David left Tre-Vigne and started a boutique wineshop (Like DB 😉) in Napa. This shop put David in an ideal situation as he was able to forge great relationships with the winemakers in the area, and as a result, David was often “tipped off” to small batches of some of the best juice to be had in Napa. As a result of this availability, David started the “Shelter” label. David can bottle juice from the top producers in Napa for Pennies on the Dollar. 
 
The wine we are putting in front of you today is the 2016 Vintage of Shelter’s “The Butcher” Cabernet Sauvignon. While we cannot divulge which vineyard this is from, we can tell you the wine is made by none other than the great Bob Foley. Bob makes top wines such as Hourglass, Switchback Ridge, as well as the incredible wines produced under the Robert Foley label. Bob also produces the wines for “Pride” which is regarded by many as the finest producer of Cabernet in Sonoma. 
 
MSRP on this wine is $75, and I can honestly tell you it’s a deal for that price. This wine should be well over $100 a bottle given the quality in the bottle. 
 
To add to all of this, the 2016 Vintage in Napa is the highest scoring vintage of all time for Napa Cabernet per Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. 
 
This wine will floor you at a very modest price. This is a single vineyard wine sourced on Howell Mtn. The wine is made at Foley Vineyards on Howell Mtn. It has had about 8 years in the bottle, and we could not find a single blemish on the wine. Bouquet-to-palate-to-finish, this is as good as Napa Cab will get with a little time in the bottle.
 
You will not believe what you are tasting at such a reasonable price!

Winemakers Tasting Notes: Deep, dark, and dense, with layers of black fruit, cassis, blackberry, tinged with hints of earth, graphite, mocha, and vanilla – all wrapped in ample but ripe tannins that provide the structure needed to support the incredible fruit and luxury finish. The wine is a powerhouse with layers of black fruit, and a hint of cedar and mocha on the finish. Seven years of bottle age has smoothed out the edges; the wine is drinking beautifully right now.
