Luigi Baudana is one of the last garagiste estates in Langhe. With just 4 quality hectares, they are located in some of the most prestigious Barolo crus in Serralunga d'Alba. The wines of the Luigi Baudana collection are an expression of powerful, genuine and true-to-terroir wines, expressing the best of the Nebbiolo grape. Baudana, the family name, the historical cru and the hamlet, is a sign of just how deep the family's roots are tied to this land.
Winemaker Notes: A vivid ruby red color with sharp fragrances of red raspberries, plums and cherries. Enriched by complex sensations of spices and liquorice, at the taste this Barolo is warm and soft, with a well-rounded body and refined tannins. The structure is the one of Serralunga, powerful and elegant in all its forms.
This opens with lovely scents of iris, woodland berry, tilled earth and a whiff of eucalyptus. Smooth as silk and already providing lots of pleasure, the polished palate features ripe red cherry, star anise and crushed mint alongside fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. It closes on a hint of cocoa. Drink through 2028.
Pretty relaxed up front, with juicy blackberry aromas. Medium-bodied palate, where the fine tannins pick up the more brambly aspect of the fruit and produce a good, tight drive.
Features underbrush, tree bark and tar flavors, which frame the core of cherry and raspberry fruit. Turns lean and a tad sinewy, yet stays fresh and long. Iron-tinged aftertaste.
The Luigi Baudana 2018 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is redolent of red fruit and sweet cherry that is especially prominent this vintage. The cherry is a dominate force. But earth, iron ore and blood orange also appear at the back, giving this wine a better sense of depth and nuance. The fruit used in this blend comes from Baudana, Cerretta and Costa Bella.
