Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino 2018

Winery situated next to Biondi Santi.

Le Ragnaie Description

If you look for classically style Brunello. Cedar and cigar box on the nose intermingled with red fruit (Cherry and Dried Cranberry) medium bodied, intense with flavor and refined tannins on the back end of the wine. I guarantee you this wine blows you away.

The Le Ragnaie winery is owned by husband-and-wife team Ricardo and Jennifer Campinoti. They own 28 Hectares in Motalcino that is divided into three parcels. This La Ragnaie to create 3 different diverse styles of Brunello di Montalcino. The “La Ragnaie vineyard” (where this wine is sourced from) sits adjacent to the winery near Passo del Lume Spento which is the highest point in all Montalcino. Higher Altitude creates a smaller more intense berry, with thicker skins.

Le Ragnaie makes complex, traditional wines from Sangiovese Grosso, Riccardo’s wines exhibit elegance and finesse from by farming some of the highest altitude vineyards in Montalcino. All four Brunello wines are fermented in concrete without selected yeast followed by a long maceration up to 90 days and three years in large Slavonian oak botti. All wines are bottled unfiltered and certified organic in the vineyards and cellar.

Winemaker Notes: Light and ethereal yet structured and complex with tart red cherries, blackberries and strawberries intertwined with crushed flowers, peppery herbs and earthy mineral notes.

Wine Advocate: 94 Points

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is delicate and fine with aromas of wild cherry, licorice, grilled herb and pressed violet. It brings on more power to the palate with medium-rich concentration, pretty freshness and silky tannins. The fine tannic management stands out here, as does its contained alcohol. In a vintage that sees very high alcohol levels across the board, Le Ragnaie should be congratulated on maintaining a more moderate 13.5% alcohol content. Winemaking sees cement and large oak casks.
