Gini Description

The Gini family has been producing wines in the Veneto dating back to the 16th Century. They own 25 Hectares situated on the best hillside position of the Appellation. Their vines produce extremely low yields. While the market for soave took a major hit from the “Bolla” ripple effect, Gini was one of the few growers in the region that stayed the course, and continued to focus on quality, NOT increasing their production to keep up with demand.

What makes Gini special is they are located in an area that is mostly comprised of large growers, and co-op’s. Gini is a multi-generational, family run estate they has always focused on quality and they happen to own the top vineyards in the region. In the 1800’s the Gini Family purchased the “Salvarenza” Cru which is considered to be not just one of the best vineyards in the region, its been noted that its one of the best vineyards in Europe. The vines in this cru range from 80 to over 100 years of age!!!That’s insane for a white wine at this price point. Go price out a white Chassagne or Puligny Montrachet sourced from 60+ year old vines. It will be 3 figures a bottle. The subsoil to the vineyard is all volcanic ash soil, and there is no doubt the best quality Soaves are found in this soil content.

The two current winemakers at the helm @ Gini are brothers Sandro and Claudio Gini. The brothers grew up in the family’s estates vineyards and know them intimately. They both honed in on their wine making skills working for the great Domaines of the Beaune and Cotes de Nuit in Burgundy. Their winery has been certified organic since 2015. They prohibit the use of insecticides or herbicides. Only indigenous yeasts are used during the fermentation process.

“Gini is one of the first-rate producers in Soave.” – Antonio Galloni

Vinous: 92 Points

The 2018 Soave Classico Contrada Salvarenza Vecchie Vigne is youthfully coy yet packed full of potential. Musky apricot and pears are joined by notes of crushed stone and savory spice, creating a slightly inward yet mesmerizing display. It’s weighty yet perfectly supported by a frame of brisk acids and minerals, as texturally ripe orchard fruits coat the palate with a glyceral feel. Hints of young peach, candied ginger and inner florals linger throughout the long finale.
