2018 Finca Abril Malbec 1922 La Consulta Vineyard Gran Reserva Old Vine Valle De Uco From a select block of old vine Malbec planted in 1922, this wine shows notes of black plus, blueberry and graphite, combined with fine layers of spice. Extremely complex and elegant acidity pave the way to a lovely finish. Make sure to adequately decant, in order to fully enjoy this bold beauty.

IF you enjoy great Napa Cabernet that costs $50-$75 a bottle. This wine will stand up to anything you have in your cellar @ a fraction of the price. A big part of the reason aside from great winemaking is the fact that this producer has access to extremely old vines. This wine was sourced from vines that are nearly 100 years old. Older vines make the best red wines because the vines are easily stressed. Old vines produce less fruit, lower yields, but yield much higher quality complex grapes.
Founded in 1996, Finca Abril has vineyards that date from 1922. Their 23 hectares of vines are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot. On their two farms in La Consulta, which is located in Valle de Uco in the Province of Mendoza, they prune and thin their vines to ensure low-yields and high quality fruit. The Finca Abril's Single VIneyard wine represents their best Malbec grapes from an eleven acre vineyard that dates back to 1922. After two years in the cellar, the wine is aged in 100% new French oak and released only when it's ready.
Tasting notes: The 2018 Malbec offers up a sexy perfume of wild berries, underbrush, incense, and lavender. Layered and plush on the palate, this succulent effort has the stuffing to evolve for 2-3 years and will deliver prime drinking from 2021 to 2029. This wine is all about spectacular balance from oak aging, to opulent black fruits, the perfect balance of power verses elegance. Spectacular quality for the price.
