Domaine du Grand Tinel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2016

Domaine du Grand Tinel Description

The wines from Domaine du Grand Tinel are made by the legendary Southern Rhone Vintner, Phillipe Cambie. Phillipe has unfortunately passed away back in December of 2021, however, the genius of his winemaking expertise lives on in the wines he produced. Cambie’s track record includes Clos Saint Jean, France to his California collaboration with Manfred Krankl of Sine Qua Non. He truly was one of the top consultants in the world.

"the wines of Grand Tinel always lead with fruit and possess beautiful and classic Southern Rhône characters.”

-Robert Parker Wine Advocate

"Philippe Cambie could be warm and friendly over a good meal and a glass of wine, but he took grape growing and winemaking very seriously, pushing his clients to realize their dreams."

-Wine Spectator

The white Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the Grand Tinel estate is one of the benchmarks of the appellation. Depending on the vintage, the nose oscillates between lemon zest, peach skin, quince often topped with a few floral notes (white flowers). This wine is distinguished by an impression of freshness and vivacity, and an energy that is rarely found in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Over the years, the wine unfolds its breadth and depth gracefully without ever losing its tension. The rest is obvious: the Domaine du Grand Tinel confirms its status as a producer of great white wines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Wine Enthusiast: 93 Points

Lavish notes of smoke, vanilla and caramel invite on the nose of this juicy and voluminous wine. It offers concentrated, fresh apple and pear flavors, with some smoky, herbaceous tones and a salty tang on the finish. Enjoy now through 2020, or hold till 2026 to enjoy its more savory complexities. ANNA LEE C. IIJIMA

Wine Advocate: 92 Points

The slightly smoky, pig fat-scented 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc is 20% barrel-fermented, with the rest vinified and aged in stainless steel. A blend of 70% Grenache Blanc with 10% each Bourboulenc, Clairette and Roussanne, it's full-bodied but zesty and fresh, with lime flavors that linger on the briny finish.
