Coldisole Brunello di Montalcino 2016 

It's no mystery that 2016 Brunello has already gone down as one of the finest vintages the region has ever seen. In my years of tasting, the only vintage I can recall having broadband success like 2016 is 2010. The 2016 Vintage for Brunello di Montalcino been awarded 98pts by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Wine Spectator has rated the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vintage an overall 99 points!
 
Eric Guido of Vinous, one of the most respected publications out there chimed in, “In describing the 2016s, they are dark yet radiant, expressive, nearly explosive at times, yet pure, poised and structured... The Coldisole estate was purchased 38 years ago by a successful Italian industrialist, Lionello Marchesi. He decided to purchase 3 very well recognized estates, Coldisole (in Brunello di Montalcino), Poggio Alle Sughere (in the Marrema) and Castello Di Monastero (in Chianti’s “Classico” district). Coldisole is an 11 acre property in Brunello di Montalcino in the eastern part of the DOCG. The subsoil is ideal for producing “old world” style of Brunello. The subsoil is clay, so the wine does have great balance from the minerality. The eastern part of Brunello is noted for having very cold winters, and hot and dry summers. This is ideal in achieving optimal ripeness of fruit.

Tasting Notes: This opens with aromas of black plum, leather and underbrush. The straightforward palate offers blackberry jam, star anise and a hint of vanilla alongside close-grained tannins.

Some nutmeg, dried flowers and a hint of soy-sauce savoriness seeped into the cranberry fruit and wet leaves. The tight, medium-bodied palate is charged with dusty, seamsless tannins. Juicy, mature and nicely woven. Drink or hold.
