The Shelter label was started by David Stevens. David bartended at one of the most famous establishments in Napa, a restaurant named Tre-Vigne. Working the bar at Tre-Vigne, David was exposed to the best wines in the world, and in turn developed a great palate and fell in love with wine. David left Tre-Vigne and started a boutique wineshop (Like DB 😉) in Napa. This shop put David in an ideal situation as he was able to forge great relationships with the winemakers in the area, and as a result, David was often “tipped off” to small batches of some of the best juice to be had in Napa. 

MSRP on this wine is $75, and I can honestly tell you it’s a deal for that price. This wine should be well over $100 a bottle given the quality in the bottle. Furthermore, 2015 is a great vintage, only 2013 and 2016 scored higher as a vintage and only by 1 point. 
 
This wine will floor you at a very modest price. This is a single vineyard wine sourced on Howell Mtn. The wine is made at Foley Vineyards on Howell Mtn. It has had about 8 years in the bottle, and we could not find a single blemish to the wine. Bouquet to palate to finish, this is as good as Napa Cab will get with a little time in the bottle.

Winemakers Tasting Notes: Deep, dark, and dense, with layers of black fruit, cassis, blackberry, tinged with hints of earth, graphite, mocha, and vanilla – all wrapped in ample but ripe tannins that provide the structure needed to support the incredible fruit and luxury finish. The wine is a powerhouse with layers of black fruit and a hint of cedar and mocha on the finish. Seven years of bottle age has smoothed out the edges; the wine is drinking beautifully right now.

Tech Notes: Single Vineyard Solaris Vineyard- Northern Apex of Napa Valley 3 miles North of Calistoga- Gravelly Loam Soil. Single Clone 337. All made at Foley Vineyards on Howell Mountain. 1 week Cuvaison before racking and barrel aging all French Oak 1/3 New French Oak. Wine sees minimum 18 months in oak then settled before bottling. No heavy Fining or Filtration.
