Sequum Mixt 2016

The wines for Sequum are made by Paul Skinner. Paul has a P.H.D. in soil science as well as viticulture. IF you are familiar with Pride winery, Paul has been working the pride Vineyard for over 20 years. Prides reserve cabernet sells for well over $200 a bottle now.

In 2003 Paul started Sequum winery. Sequum is a science term that describes the sequence in layers of soil. All the fruit for Sequum’s wines are sourced from the Kidd Ranch Vineyard, which is their estate vineyard, Managed by Paul.

We just tasted the 2016 Vintage of the Sequum Mixt, and the wine is absolutely singing in the glass. If you follow California vintages, 2016 is the highest rated of all time for the region. This wine has had about 8 years in the bottle, and it’s without a doubt in its optimum drinking window.

When we took a look at the varietal composition we thought we would be tasting a wine that is very rich and concentrated. NOT the case AT ALL! This wine has balance and elegance to it, it is more medium to full bodied. With the bottle time it has received the wine is drinking incredibly well. The back end of this wine is like silk and satin.

Tasting Notes: This gorgeous red blend is big, rich, concentrated and opulent with huge berry fruit in the nose with the perfect amount of oak. On the palate, this wine explodes with a delicious array of flavors. Bold blackberry, fresh cherry, raspberry and cassis blend beautifully with mixed sweet spice, sweet tobacco leaf, cigar box, baker’s chocolate, bramble, white cherry, red currant and toasty oak. The wine is opulently textured yet velvety soft in the mouth.
