Robbie Meyer is a Rockstar winemaker. Robbie has spent over 25 years living in Napa, making wine for top producers such as Peter Michael and Lewis. Back in 2001, he was enjoying a bottle of wine with his colleague Alan Peirson from Peter Michael. Alan was the vineyard manager for Peter Michael and Robbie was the winemaker at the time. With a little help from their wives, they came up with a name and logo for their brand by sketching it on a cocktail napkin. That Fall, both Peirson Meyer and L’Angevin were born. 
 
I fell in love with Peirson Meyer's wines a decade ago, and it was honestly the first time I tasted a beautifully rich Chardonnay that had the vanilla and the tropical fruits, but also acidity for balance in the wine. I have been on the hunt for the wine ever since. 
 
We have a tiny allocation of Peirson Meyer's 2016 “Charles Heintz Vineyard” Single vineyard Chardonnay that just arrived. The Charles Heintz vineyard is located 900 feet above sea level just off the Sonoma Coast. The vineyard experiences the cool maritime effects from the Pacific Ocean. This allows for some warmth during the day to achieve optimal ripeness, and cool evenings to allow for longer hang times. This will allow the Chardonnay to achieve a richer fuller flavor. The vines in the vineyard are at an average of 40 years old. 

Winery Tasting Notes: With marvelous depth and complexity, the 2016 Heintz straddles the fence between elegance and power. Layered notes of orange blossom, tangerine, vanilla, and flinty minerality add to the delightful texture on the palate. The Heintz is framed by a beautiful beam of acidity that makes it a superb food wine. In the glass and in the cellar our Charles Heintz Chardonnay evolves beautifully with time.

 

The 2016 Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard is another inviting wine in this range from Peirson Meyer. Oily and unctuous on the palate, as these wines tend to be, the Charles Heintz is built on textural richness and creaminess. Pineapple, mint, butter and a kiss of French oak develop with time in the glass.
