2018 Memory - Tannat Alta Mesa

The varietal here is Tannat, historically the grape that is grown in south western France and it utilized in the Madiran AOC. Today Tannat is the Noble red grape or Uruguay. Tannat is also grown here in the United States, it can be found in Maryland as well as Virginia. You can even find Tannat Vineyards in Arizona, Oregon, as well as Texas. We are seeing dramatically increased demand for the wine as Tannat creates a wine that is very dark in color yet the body of the wine is on the light to medium side and does not have heavy tannin. The result is a soft easy drinking wine that is very affordable and pairs extremely well with a wide variety of cuisines.

Chris Pratt is an incredible winemaker. Chris got his start in the trade wines for Karl Lawrence as well as Sequioa Grove. Chris then went on to become the assistant winemaker @ Staglin and AdamVS on Howell Mtn. Shortly thereafter Chris was introduced to Grant Long Jr. Chris has now been Grant’s right hand man @ both Aonair and Reverie II for over a decade. Chris also helps out with the wines produced under the MISC label as well as the incredible Synonymous label all of which have been huge hits with the customer base.

Tasting Notes: Contrary to its inky almost black appearance, this beauty is full of finesse and elegance. Smoothly integrated on the nose, this bottling combines cherry, boysenberry and oak-smoked meat on the nose. The palate is medium bodied with black cherry, peppery spice and more wood smoke, with decent acidity throughout. The tannins on this wine are completely integrated and the wine has a cashmere smooth finish right out of the bottle. Truly a delight. Can be served on its own merit, and will compliment a wide variety of dishes as the wine will not over-power the food.
