2016 Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons - Graves
The history of Château de Cérons history dates back over 300 years to when it was first created by “Marquis de Calvimont”. Today the Chateau is owned by Giorgio Cavanna who acquired the property in 2000. The estate is located in the heart of the Graves region, in the village of Cérons. Historically known for the quality of its terroir, Château de Cérons produces wine of exceptional quality with long aging potential. After taking over the winery, Giorgio totally revamped the estate from the facilities and the equipment right down to replanting the vineyards. All work in the vineyard is done in the vein of creating the best wine possible. From balanced pruning, to careful thinning out of leaves twice a season, green harvesting, manual picking and table hand selection, all of these factors contribute to the production of a wine that is a pure expression of its terroir. A fully renovated winery, storehouse and barrel cellar are part of this jewel, combining a state of the art facility with traditional know how, in the pure respect of the Bordeaux tradition.
The wines from Château de Cérons are made by Bertrand Leon with the help of his father Patrick Leon. Patrick previously was the winemaker for First Growth Chateau Mouton Rothschild.
The wine is also sourced from the 2016 Vintage in the Grave. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded the 2016 Vintage 97 Pts for the Grave appellation! That puts the 2016 Vintage in a class with some of the greatest vintages EVER for the region. 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, and 2000. Dating back to 1970. These are the best vintages of all time. If you know Bordeaux, you know to look for value in great vintages like 2016. Top houses will make great wine in every vintage. It's houses such as Château de Cérons that REALLY shine in a vintage like 2016 as all the quality in this region trickles down from the top in a great vintage.
Treat yourself, Bordeaux is one of the hardest regions to find value in as the price of the wines tend to go nowhere but up.
The team and I just tasted a bottle. And we LOVED the 2015 Vintage of this wine. There is no question that the 2016 is even better!
Treat yourself, it's really hard to find this type of quality on Bordeaux at this price point.

A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 55% Merlot give the Château de Cérons all the stuffing needed to make a wine that over-delivers for its price. The winery utilizes a gravity fed system for minimal intervention. This shows fig, blackberry, plum, light cigar and a kiss of oak barrel. Medium to full- bodied with classic, dry, minerally Bordeaux nuances. Older Châteaux in the region of Graves can rival the quality of Bordeaux at a fraction of the price, and this is no exception.
Review on the 2015 vintage: Very dark purple. Opulent palate entry. Very fresh and vital. A success, and very much better than Ch. de Cérons red tout court. 16.5/20 Pts. Jancis Robinson
Tasting Notes: Dark cherry red robe with nearly black reflects. Very rich, pulpy and elegant nose of black ripe berries, complex and showing the great ripeness of the vintage. Refined vanilla notes already well integrated at the nose at this stage. Round and voluptuous on palate. Complete and complex in association with an impressive tannic structure balanced by its density and its refinement. The wine shows a great unctuosity attributing to it a superb length with a final note of remarkable freshness.
